Edward Lee Rocha, Director

Edward is the founder and Director of RoLa Languages. While living abroad in Argentina and Spain, he fell in love with the idea of the language school, and was determined to build such a community in Boston. After privately tutoring Spanish for many years, Ed decided to formalize his teaching method and began RoLa Languages. Ed is fluent in English and Spanish and a student of French and Portuguese. He has nearly 8 years of language teaching experience, having taught both English and Spanish as a teacher and tutor. He received his Bachelor's from Harvard University and Master's in Management from Boston University.

Erica is a Massachusetts native who has loved learning languages since she was a child.  She began studying Spanish in middle school and soon added French, eventually becoming a tutor in both languages.  She spent two summers in Switzerland improving her French and one summer in Spain. In college, she complemented her language studies with Arabic and found a new focus. After serving as an Arabic tutor on the college staff, she graduated Smith College with a major in Arabic & Middle Eastern Studies and a minor in Spanish.  Erica currently serves as Assistant Director, teaches English, Spanish and French, and hopes to learn Portuguese.

Yvon Gachette, Marketing Manager

Born and partly raised in Haiti, Yvon moved to Cambridge (MA) in 2005. He speaks English, French, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and a bit of Italian. He obtained his B.A. in Philosophy from the College of the Holy Cross, where he also enrolled in the Pre-Law program and completed coursework for a  Peace & Conflict Studies concentration. Throughout his high school and college years, he enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer at local organizations where he mentored and tutored diverse groups of students. He values his multicultural background  and is a major fan of a multicultural education, which played a role in his pursuit of a master's degree in Global Communications abroad, at the American University of Paris. Some of his passions include philosophy, languages, traveling, human rights, writing, and spicy food! 

Christian Marcial Rodrigrez, Executive Assistant

Christian is a native Spanish speaker from Puerto Rico. He started with the RoLa team as an Intern and has now become the Executive Assistant. He has also gained experience in teaching and is in the process of becoming TESOL certified. He holds a Bachelor’s degree with a major in International Business Management. He graduated from Newbury College. Aside from Spanish, Christian also continues to perfect his French. He enjoys working with children and students from all over the world. He has been a part of RoLa’s English Intensive weeks for adults. He has taught kindergarten students from Boston and also from China. He is the Summer Camp Specialist as he has taught English and Spanish for both kids and adults. Besides teaching, Christian has other interesting skills such as playing the piano.  

Claudia Canu, Italian Teacher

Claudia has been teaching Italian in Boston-area language schools since 2009. Originally from the beautiful island of Sardinia, she obtained both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics from the University of Bologna. Over the years she has lived in Argentina, Japan, Poland, Italy, and the US. In the classroom Claudia likes to include anecdotes about Italian culture and current events in order to give students an entertaining and accurate idea of what Italy is like today.

Vinicius Camargo Penteado,  Portuguese Teacher

Vinícius is a Brazilian living in Boston since 2017. His native language is Portuguese and he's on his way to making English his secondary language. He has 13 years of experience teaching Biology in High School. He loves his cat, Holden, His wife, Marilene, his job, his family, and Boston!

Joshua Lipson, Spanish & English Teacher

Joshua teaches Spanish at RoLa, and has also taught Hebrew, Arabic, and English over the years. He hails from New Jersey, and got his degree in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from Harvard. He's a published poet, an aspiring psychologist, and a lifetime language learner. In his spare time, he's picking up Portuguese.

Almudena Garcia Anon, Spanish Teacher

Almudena is from the north of Spain. She speaks Spanish, English and a bit of German. In 2011 she left Málaga and since then have lived in Sydney (Australia), Munich (Germany) and now in Cambridge, MA. She loves having friends and family around and cooking for them. She swims as much as she can and enjoys reading a nice book.

Pablo Gomes, Portuguese Teacher

Pablo was born and raised in the Northeast of Brazil, he has had a passion for languages since he was a child. He taught Portuguese to foreign speakers while living in London and English to Brazilians when he moved back to Brazil. He is also a writer, filmmaker and journalist and has produced several short films and a feature documentary about folk legend and culture. He has been living in Boston, MA, since November 2016 and has a degree in Film and Journalism.

Ana Laura Ibave, Spanish and English Teacher

Ana Ibave began working as a Spanish professor at The University of Rhode Island in 2010, while working towards her Master’s Degree in Spanish Linguistics. This teaching position sparked in her a strong passion for bilingual education. Ana studied abroad for a semester in the University of Salamanca in Spain, where she learned more about the pedagogical and linguistic aspects of language acquisition.
After 4 years of working at the University of Rhode Island, Ana went back to Mexico to work as an English Professor for a private college called North Regional University.
For her, meaningful teaching involves assimilating individuals into the mainstream of a global society with language skills that will enhance their employment opportunities and social status.

Beatriz Catelani, Portuguese and English Teacher

Beatriz, or just Bia, is a Brazilian from São Paulo, and has been living in Boston since 2011. She loves the multicultural aspect of the city, despite the cold!
She holds a degree in Translation/Interpretation in Portuguese & English and a Masters in Education from Cambridge College, MA. She has been tutoring English and Portuguese for more than 8 years, from children and teenagers to adults. She loves to be in a classroom, teaching and interacting with students!
Camila Saubidet, Spanish Teacher

Camila has been teaching different levels from Intro to Advanced, and different ages, from kindergarten kids to adults, and she loves it. She has been a teacher at Rola since May 2017.

Camila is originally from her beloved Buenos Aires, Argentina. She and her husband have been living in Boston since August 2016. Her first language is Spanish, and she has been learning English since she was a child. She's also a fashion designer, she does party and wedding dresses made to measure and ready to wear, that she sends to Argentina. She loves to travel, read, watch movies and admire all kinds of art.

James Clay, English, French and Spanish Teacher

James is born and raised in Augusta,Georgia. During freshman year of high school, he found his passion for languages when he took his first Spanish class.  Afterwards, he began learning French while continuing with Spanish. He is currently a student at Harvard University concentrating in linguistics. Furthermore, he is studying Japanese to expand his appreciation for global cultures. Outside of the classroom, he loves to travel the world, teach, and help others with their language-learning journey!
